Getting home inspection refund if seller backs out?
Our offer on a property was accepted, and due to the seller’s hurry to have matters finalised, we paid $400 for the home inspection during the escrow period. Our offer to buy was contingent upon the buyer finding a new home within seven days. Nine days later, we were advised that the sellers had decided not to move.
We are now out of pocket for the cost of the home inspection. Can we reasonably expect the sellers to reimburse us for this?
We are in the state of California.

No, you cannot expect reimbursement. The home inspection was for your benefit, and the costs are yours to bear, even if the property did not come to a successful closing.
First I would never agree to a contingency that the seller find a new home. If I did agree I would have spelled it out that I would do the inspection after that contingency was finished. If I wanted for some reason to do the inspection during the contingency period I would have spelled out what happened in this case or I would have accepted the risk.
I think you accepted the risk without fully opening your eyes.
you need an attorney now!
what does the contract say?
depending on the language of the contract, the seller or the agents involved may owe you money.
do not let the agents or the seller get away with this nonsense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in general real estate agents are a bunch of poorly trained, incompetent creeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the real estate agent that represented you wrote a contract that lets the seller get away with this, then the agent that represented you is an incompetent fool.
If it was the agent who represented you that wrote a contract that lets the seller get away with this, then the real estate agent that represented you owes you money.
my peers are correct; look at the purchase contract. I am betting,
sad to say, that reimbursement for said inspection was not
covered.
My bro did the same thing.
sorry
at least it is a tax deductible expense
[i also paid for a useless appraisal]
yeah i agree with the first answer dont expect an amends .
